A Stroke Recovery That Stunned the Doctors

Walking Without Support
Doctors expected at least a week. Dr. Rahul had him on his feet — unsupported — on the third session.

It was June 26th that Sukhpreet was shifted to the private ward at Metro Hospital after staying almost 4 days in ICU due to a sudden ischemic stroke. Dr. Rahul had come for his physiotherapy session in the evening — it was then that we decided to get physiotherapy sessions from him.
I was very nervous and worried regarding the recovery path forward. My first question to Dr. Rahul was: "Will Sukhpreet be able to walk without support?" He assuringly said that within a week he shall be walking without support. To our utter delight and surprise, Dr. Rahul made him walk without support on the third day of physiotherapy. He had put brace bands on his calfs which helped him walk without the need for support. It was then that I believed that Dr. Rahul was God sent.
He took such good care of Sukhpreet — motivating him, encouraging him to keep going, and chasing him via WhatsApp throughout the day to ensure his daily regime was done religiously. He not only guided Sukhpreet with the problem-specific physio technique but also addressed the emotional upheaval he was going through due to the stroke. He would sometimes make the whole family sit together to address issues pertaining to the recovery. He is a good listener and an excellent problem solver.
The doctors at Metro had told me that hand movements and fine motor movements would come at a very late stage. Dr. Rahul had made Sukhpreet hold a pen the very first day, and made him practise maths, English, and Hindi in the very first month. At the first appointment with the neuro doctor after discharge, she was stunned to see Sukhpreet write his name in very neat handwriting. It was an unbelievable recovery as per her.
Just after 4 months of physiotherapy, he has made Sukhpreet capable of joining back his office. A big cheer to Dr. Rahul's efforts, his perseverance, and for being an empathetic, exceptionally helpful, and efficient guide throughout.
